SOPHEA Gallery and Tibetan Teahouse is set in a beautiful old house overlooking the magnificent False Bay of the Western Cape, South Africa. Situated in Seaforth, a suburb of picturesque Simon's Town on the Main road to Cape Point, the Gallery and Teahouse is only 2 blocks from Boulders National Park with its penguins and beautiful beaches.

There are lots to see and do...

(See bottom of page for summary of July events)

There are 4 distinct sections, each unique and interesting

We also have the  Spiritual Art Gallery leading off from the Teahouse. Plus,  art spread throughout the house where you will find various forms of fine art on display. It ranges from paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics to textiles, photography, glasswork, even digital art. The core essence of these works, including some works by local South African artists - some of whom are  award-winning artists - is that they exude a special kind of spiritual energy over and above the aesthetic appeal of the individual piece.

Another component of SOPHEA Gallery is a Shop or artefact and craft section. Sourced from all over the world, from as far afield as the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Nepal, Kashmir and Bhutan with their rich and ancient handicraft traditions, to our own local South African arts and crafts. Items include singing bowls, prayer flags, silver jewellery, ceramics and rich textiles.

Tibetan Teahouse As you enter from the garden you step into a deep-set and sheltered verandah with fabulous views overlooking False Bay that are ideal for whale watching and is home to the Tibetan Teahouse. The small menu offers imaginative and tasty vegetarian and vegan food, styled on original Tibetan recipes, and is praised by vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. In winter a cosy fireplace and hearty plates of Sherpa Stew or Sweet Potato Curry take care of the cold. All meals and cakes are baked on the premises from the finest ingredients.

JULY 2015

Please join us for our special celebrations as we honour our beloved

His Holiness, the XIV  Dalai Lama, Tenzing Gyatso

who turns 80 on 6 July 2015

Starting for the month of July our normal Sophea Gallery & Tibetan Teahouse theme-based Spiritual Art Exhibition will be entitled "Celebrating the Human(e) Spirit". But to specifically honour Tibet and the Dalai Lama we are opening with a 4-day special exhibit,

from 2 to 5 July, of Sacred Tibetan Art and Artefacts with some items coming from various local private collections. It will feature interesting religious and cultural artefacts. Also on display will be the Tibetan musical instruments we will use at the Labia Theatre (Sunday 5 July at 5:30pm) and Simon"s Town Museum (Monday 6 July) where we will perform our Lui ceremony at the 2 screenings of the latest Dalai Lama film "Road to Peace" which forms part of the Film Focus at the Labia and Simon’s Town Museum to celebrate the Dalai Lama 's birthday. See for details of the films to be shown.

But most of all,  please support us in our endeavour to live up to the ethos of the Dalai Lama of loving kindness to all sentient beings, by joining us in our fundraising efforts for Nepal earthquake victims. Click on the link below and read about the selected beneficiaries
